TPC 5-day CARBINE INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT: Law Enforcement/Military Only! - Salt Lake City, UT

TPC 5-day L.E./ Mil. Instructor Development Course - Carbine

This program is designed to provide instructors with a comprehensive understanding of the Reactive Shooting Science (RSS) doctrine while simultaneously developing the instructional, diagnostic, and coaching skills necessary to prepare officers for real-world operational demands.

Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of what it takes to perform at true fighting speeds while maintaining accountability for every shot fired. The course examines the principles governing high-performance marksmanship under stress and teaches instructors how to identify, analyze, and correct shooting deficiencies without relying on the outdated concept of "slowing down to get hits."

As firearms instructors, we carry a responsibility to provide the highest standard of training to those entrusted with protecting themselves and their communities. This program equips instructors with a systematic framework for developing performance, diagnosing deficiencies, and implementing targeted corrective strategies that produce measurable results.

Unlike traditional drill-based training, this course is built upon a structured, principle-based methodology grounded in modern research in biomechanics, neural processing, motor learning, and performance under stress. Every module is interconnected and intentionally designed to create repeatable, predictable performance in operational environments.

MISSION:

To provide instructors with the comprehensive knowledge, practical skills, and conceptual understanding necessary to develop, diagnose, and improve high-performance reactive marksmanship. Through the application of the Reactive Shooting Science doctrine, participants will learn to evaluate shooter performance systematically, identify underlying causes of deficiencies, and implement effective corrective methodologies for themselves and those they train.

METHODOLOGY:

Through a combination of classroom instruction, guided discussion, practical demonstration, performance testing, and instructor-led exercises, participants will learn both the application and instruction of Reactive Shooting Science principles.

Each instructor-student will develop a deep understanding of the principles governing reactive shooting performance and learn how to apply them on an individual basis. Participants will then learn a structured diagnostic process for identifying shooter deficiencies, tracing performance failures to their root causes, and implementing targeted solutions that accelerate skill development.

Throughout the course, students will have numerous opportunities to demonstrate proficiency, competency, and mastery of the principles presented while refining their own instructional abilities, coaching methodology, curriculum development skills, and performance-analysis capabilities.

Upon completion, graduates will possess a systematic framework for developing shooters, diagnosing performance issues, implementing corrective strategies, and delivering effective firearms instruction in both training and operational environments.

TRAINING DESCRIPTION

Principles of high‐performance reactive marksmanship (Handgun/Carbine)

  • Fire Control Triangle – purposes, principles, and techniques of the shooting stance, grip, and trigger control for high-speed shooting while maintaining a high level of accuracy
    • Using stance and grip to create passive control over the carbine/rifle
    • Diagnostics of recovery after the shot
    • Trigger control – purposes and principles
  • Grouping patterns and diagnostics – how to read shooting group in dynamic close-range fire and how to discover and correct potential technical problems in recoil control or trigger pull.
  • Sight offset factor (point of aim, point of impact) for close-quarter engagements
  • Principles behind efficient multiple-target engagements
  • Reactive Shooting Cycle – the “algorithm” of the shot (the six elements of the perfect shot)
  • Zeroing and zero confirmation
  • Ready positions and rapidly mounting/dismounting the rifle
  • Off-hand engagement 50 – 100 yards and midrange distances with multiple shots
  • Dynamic engagements and shooting on the move
  • Principles of support
  • Utilizing additional support for fast target engagements at medium and long-range distances and factors of influence in a realistic environment

Methods for diagnostics (students’ performance)

  • Reading shooting group patterns
  • Most common shooting problems and errors – instant fix of the problem
  • Mental analogies and representations

Kenneth

This course exceeded my expectations and provided valuable techniques to further my experience. Louie and Ross did an outstanding job, breaking down the information both on and off the range. i highly suggest an instructor to take this course and further their education. i look forward to taking more courses with TPC.

Steven

The class was very educational. it provided excellent explanations to the science behind perfecting your shooting skills and how to teach your students the same process. I think a great way to improve the class would to be to allow the students to perform the TCP challenges the way they shoot, then after teaching them the TCP process, have them complete the challenge with the skills they have learned and see the improvements made. Overall it was an excellent course!!
